I'm Giving Up ____ For Jesus

Jesus commands us to get rid of those things in life that keep us from following Him. If something causes you to sin… Cut it out of your life! Jesus is referring to anything that tempts us away from God’s will.

Give Up: Bitterness & Resentment

What is a nasty root?  It is bitterness and resentment.  Bitterness and resentment is a weed that will choke out anything positive in your life.  Bitterness often leads to grudges, smoldering hatred, and brokenness.

Give Up: Judging Others

Give Up: Apathy

Apathy is essentially quitting on something or someone because we do not get the desired results.  Apathy is not trying. Apathy is not caring anymore.  Apathy can destroy all that is good in your life.

Give Up: Envy

Envy is a sneaky sin.  We don’t realize that we are doing it.  For example, a lawyer isn’t likely to be upset if someone says, “Dr. X is the best doctor in town.”  However, if someone was to say Mr. Z is the best layer in town…then envy probably will crop up.

Give Up: Your Bad Habit

We all have bad habits.  We all need to change.  Only a person who is committed to God’s way will truly change.  To break a bad habit it all begins with commitment.

Lent is that season when many Christians give up something as a spiritual discipline.  Most of the time, Christians give up things like pizza, cokes, or chocolate knowing that when Easter is here they can have them again.

What if we were to challenge ourselves by going deeper into the spiritual disciplines?

What if we were to give up something really BAD for Lent like a bad habit, bad attitude, bad behavior, or bad theology?

What if we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us deeper into the ways of Jesus that lead to a better Christian life?
