I still get a lump in my throat every time I watch that old classic SHENANDOAH. Do you remember the last scene in the movie when “the boy” comes walking, limping, into the church? He’s been lost from his family for months—caught up in the disasters of war. His family has looked for him everywhere without success. Tragedy has stalked the family, but they are still together, strengthened by their faith and their loyalty to each other.
And, if you’ll remember, “going to church” was a big part of that commitment. That’s what made them family; that’s what made them strong!
My favorite Sundays here at Saint Stephen are those Sundays when people “come home” and “join” the Saint Stephen family. Yes, we have a wonderful congregation here, a wonderful church family, but, as I have said, many times before ALL THE FAMILY IS NOT HERE YET. There are still hundreds of people that God wants to bring to us – for our good, for their good, and for the ultimate good of the Kingdom.
This coming Sunday is “Membership Sunday” – “Homecoming Sunday.” I can’t wait! The family is growing, and we need to be there to celebrate the “new additions.” Don’t miss out on these exciting times in our church.
For the Kingdom,
Pastor Stan
