After a gorgeous Sunday a week ago for State of the Church, the weather sort of ambushed our plans for a big response with our Commitment Cards on this Sunday. Out of the 750 packets prepared for members and friends, we had 26 “Commitment Envelopes” turned in – OUCH! I don’teven want to figure the percentage on that one!
So let’s try it again.
► First of all, if you haven’t figured it out by now, the STATE OF THE CHURCH event is the “launch event” of our annual stewardship drive.
► Secondly, no matter how wonderful the event was Sunday night, if we don’t have a good response with the “Commitment Envelopes” we have not succeeded. We build our annual budget on the basis of this response.
► Thirdly, we have decided to go ahead and mail ALL the remaining packets—we can’t afford to wait for people to pick them up. So, if you did not go to the banquet, or pick up your packet Sunday, it’s coming to you in the mail this week.
► Finally, we have two commitment Sundays left. We need all our “Commitment Envelopes” turned in by Sunday, February 14th - you can mail them in, bring them by the church office during the week, or present them at the altar this Sunday or the next.
Am I discouraged about the slow start? Absolutely not! I know God is in charge. In fact, I believe that our “Commitment” response this year is going to be better than ever!
Faithfully Yours,
Stan
